Five Practices for Moving Forward
There are moments when life leaves us unsure about what to do next. You may be carrying grief, navigating change, leading under pressure, or realizing that something in your life needs attention.
You do not have to solve everything today. Start with the step that belongs to today.
Tell the Truth About Where You Are
You cannot care for what you will not name. Take a moment to be honest about what you are feeling, what is weighing on you, and what has changed.
Ask yourself
- •What is taking most of my emotional energy right now?
- •What have I been avoiding?
- •What do I need to admit to myself?
Honesty is not weakness. It is where clarity begins.
Name What You Need
You may need encouragement, direction, rest, support, accountability, prayer, or a plan.
Do not begin by asking what everyone expects from you. Begin by asking what will help you respond to this season in a healthy and faithful way.

What I need most right now is:
Separate Right Now From What Comes Next
Some matters require attention today. Other matters can wait.
Ask yourself
- •What needs my attention right now?
- •What decision can wait until I have more information?
- •What is one responsibility I can complete today?
You do not need to carry tomorrow and today at the same time.
Invite the Right Support
Strength is not measured by how much you can carry alone.
Support may come from a trusted friend, family member, pastor, coach, mentor, physician, counselor, or other qualified professional.
Ask yourself
- •Who can listen without trying to control my decision?
- •Who has the wisdom or experience I need?
- •Who can help me remain accountable to my next step?
The right support does not take away your responsibility. It helps you carry it wisely.
Take One Faithful Step
Prayer and planning belong together. After you pray, identify one action you can take.
Your step may be making a phone call, setting a boundary, asking for help, scheduling an appointment, completing a task, or giving yourself time to rest.
